Operation Highjump

“If you only climb a mountain once a year
you can’t really call yourself a mountaineer…”

Deleting myself
gives me a sense of what control must be like
a taste of power with sweet and sour
while hanging on for happy hour.

Noodle arms and stir-fried brain
this place doesn’t feel the same
I’m always too cooked or under-done
embittered by what I’ve not become
how am I supposed to find composure
in the tedium of raw sobriety?

Smoke and mirrors
whats for dinner?
I would eat my own head
if it allowed me to forget
that I am the culmination
of those hapless generations
lost to time and creeping death
I am where the story ends.

  1. That last line. I am where the story ends. That is a very strong finish to the piece. Wow. I feel like I could relate to this piece so much, the hapless generations and creeping death. I’m almost 30 and feel the tension knowing family and friends grow older and I’m still house searching. This piece is so eloquently put together and honest. I really enjoyed this read. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you Brittny. I was dealing with some dark thoughts when I wrote this, but I find that once it’s on the page, then it’s out of my head, and I can think more clearly. It’s about my struggle with the idea of having children vs not. I have always tended towards being childless (growing up with parents who resented their own kids probably contributed to this), but events earlier in the year made me question everything about myself, including this. So yeah, I’m rambling now, but to wrap up, writing helps us heal, and as always I’m grateful for your support ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. I’m grateful for yours as well ๐Ÿ™‚ I go back and forth with that decision too, mainly because of money situations and health. It’s such a tough decision to make. Writing does help so much though. It’s cleared my head on many occasions, including occasions where I felt like I was going crazy lol . It’s a good thing we’re writers, Tom and have an outlet. Otherwise, we might have been crazy lol
